Organic wool 'needs boost from fashion industry'

24/02/2010

Celebrities dressed in knitwear and other woollen items are likely to boost the farming industry, according to one publication.

The writers explained that Prince Charles's Wool Project could lead to this occurring.

Launched in January, the project supported by the Prince hopes to raise wool's worth for farmers by bringing together key names in retail, textiles and environmental industries.

Speaking to the Evening Gazette about wool, chairman of the National Sheep Association John Thorley said: "It's a great product - natural and sustainable, it's warmer and wears better than man-made materials, but if we don’t use it we'll lose it."

Fashion is a particularly good way to increase awareness of the matter, he added.

However, currently supply is outstripping demand for the material, Mr Thorley continued.

Not only is the product practical to wear, but it is also environmentally friendly. It can be recycled and locally sourced, Mr Taylor noted.ADNFCR-2444-ID-19633304-ADNFCR
