Ladies' knitwear is among the key trends that will be big for the autumn season, an expert asserts.

Lindy Omassi, fashion director at Smart Set, claims that the long cardigan is the must-have garment this year, Homemakers reports.

She asserts that the length elevates ladies' knitwear and makes it a new look, which could appeal to fashionistas with their fingers on the pulse.

"Dress it up with a knee-length dress for a new shape or down with leggings and a turtleneck for casual," she advises.

Ms Omassi suggests that ladies' knitwear that is soft to the touch will be particularly popular this autumn.

It is crucial that people avoid looking contrived and can achieve this by adding a splash of unexpected colour, she advises.

Earlier this month, the Galway Advertiser's Delila Bouakkaz claimed that ladies' knitwear is a fashion essential for the autumn season, with cardigans, jumpers and dresses in the material predicted to become popular.
