Celtic Sheepskin was founded over 21 years ago by Nick and Kath Whitworth. It is the largest UK retailer of luxury sheepskin outerwear, boots & slippers and over the years the business has developed its expertise in designing, sourcing and manufacturing footwear, outerwear and clothing from natural fibres. The business currently has annual sales of over £9m.
Based in Cornwall, Celtic Sheepskin makes by hand their full range of sheepskin boots, flip-flops and the majority of their sheepskin slippers, all of which are sold via the mail-order company’s catalogue and website. In addition, the company has also developed a popular range of natural clothing and outerwear which they conscientiously make as close to home as possible, either in Great Britain or nearby European countries, to ensure they take care of the environment and also their scrupulously high quality standards. Over the past 21 years, Celtic Sheepskin has worked hard to produce their iconic Celt Boots and stylishly comfortable clothing, based on strong craft values that harness natural products. These core values helped to see the company grow by over 20% in 2010 to the previous year.
In April 2011 Piper, a leading private equity specialist in consumer brands, announced their investment into Celtic Sheepskin, providing the company with growth funding. Nick Whitworth, company founder, explained;
